Gorky's childhood

Maxim Gorky (real name Alexei Maximovich Peshkov) was a Russian/Soviet writer (1868 - 1936), a classic of Russian literature, poet, prose writer, playwright, journalist and social activist, publicist, five-time Nobel Prize nominee. His novel “Childhood” from trilogy "Childhood. In People. My universities" is autobiographical and tells the story of the author's adolescence and the harsh life in Tsarist Russia at the beginning of the last century. The book was made into a movie in 1938. One fragment of the movie shows the flogging of the grandchildren. Whippings were given in the Peshkov's house for all children every Saturday on a regular basis. For this purpose, birch rods (switches) were used previously soaked in salt water. Even if a child behaved well all week, he received seven strokes of the rod (one for each day) as a maintenance flogging. Depending on the severity of the offense, the others received much more.

Elusive avengers

“The Elusive Avengers” by Edmond Keosayan was based on the story ‘Red Devils’ by Pavel Blyakhin, written in 1921. Based on the same work, long before “The Elusive Ones”, a silent movie of the same name was made, directed by Ivan Perestiani. Like Keosayan's picture, “Red Devils” became one of the most popular films of its time, as well as one of the best examples of Soviet adventure cinema. The movie is set in 1920, in the south of Ukraine during the Russian Civil War. Danka and his little sister Ksanka are orphans, their father was shot by the ataman of the Burnash gang. They vow to take revenge and together with their friends - the serious gymnasium student Valerka and the smashing gypsy Yashka - set off on their journey. Danka, risking his life, infiltrates Burnash's detachment, but the bandits find out who he is and intend to kill him. The friends cannot allow the massacre, they must save Danka.

The duel

The series based on the novel of the same name by A. Kuprin was filmed in 2014. The young and promising lieutenant Romashov enters the regiment, where he sees the injustice going on. He alone tries to somehow correct the situation, to be honest to himself and people, but it does not always work out. The viewer also gets acquainted with the personal life of the protagonist, empathizing with him in his failures, rejoicing in his successes. Before the eyes of viewers from a young and naive sub-lieutenant grows a confident man who has willpower, his own opinion and views on life. With such a hero nothing is scary! The movie has a scene of a young officer being flogged with a birch rod.
