Many people think flogging to discipline minors in households is not common. I think it is not! This section presents a variety of opinions and testimonial evidence from adults and not-so-adults about teenage flogging. You could dismiss them. But these are real stories and there are many of them! The data came from different sources, differernt countries, mostly from forums on corporal punishment of children and adolescents.

Growing up with corporal punishment was a complex experience for me. At the time, it was difficult to understand why my parents chose to discipline me that way. I often felt humiliated and shamed, and there was a constant fear that came with it. They were bigger and more powerful, and their use of physical force made me feel small and powerless.
Looking back, I can see that my parents were trying to teach me right from wrong, but the method left emotional scars. It instilled a belief that physical aggression was an acceptable response to problems, something I had to unlearn as I grew older.
As an adult, I understand more about the negative effects of corporal punishment, such as its potential to open the door to physical abuse and its impact on children's mental health. I choose not to use it with my own children. Instead, I aim to discipline through understanding and communication, hoping to foster a more positive and respectful relationship with them.

I've never had a problem with it. I have excellent parents and when I got spanked, it was always deserved. Better than some parental psychoterror that some other children I know had.

When a child exhausts the limits of patience and consistently exhibits the sort of negligence and poor judgement that I did, parents might just run out of options and have to resort to using corporal punishment. I know that was the case for my mom and dad right up until that child turned into an older teen. So how do I feel about it? I honestly can’t say that I blame them one bit. Fortunately, I think that my judgement has improved considerably over the past several months. I might still test the limits of patience once in a while, but it seems to fall within the boundaries of reason.

My Spankings as a child never bothered me, this was in the 60’s and 70’s so every child I knew received Spankings as discipline. My Spankings were always on my Bare Butt, Mom would use a paddle or wooden hair brush, Hairbrush stung much worse than the Paddle, Dad would use his leather belt. I always felt better after my Spankings because I knew I deserved my Spankings, and was forgiven for what ever I did wrong after my Spanking.

My parents did and I have no problem with it. I had certain rules and they never changed. I knew the consequences if I broke them. If I made the choice to break the rules I had to take those consequences. I loved and respected my parents very much and I miss them every single day.

My parents used corporal punishment and were not alone; spanking was, at the time and in my social environment, the commonly accepted way to punish misbehaving children; nobody frowned upon it. Also, we children accepted getting spanked when we were naughty as the natural, righteous and best way to get punished when we misbehaved. Most parents, I guess 2/3, stopped spanking when their children reached the confirmation age (14-15 years) and used grounding instead. Fortunately, my parents belonged to the last 1/3 and continued spanking when we deserved to get punished. My sister and I preferred getting spanked; it was a swift and straightforward punishment that did not humiliate us or ruin our social lives like getting grounded would have done.

During the 60s and early 70s it may have been a fairly normal way of punishment. We did not really talk about it with friends but when I was elementary school age many times I heard spankings being done in the neighborhood or a parent calling a friend inside when we were playing. Hearing the slaps on the bottom, this would be after us being noticed doing something in the yard we shouldn't.
Quite a few times if that happened, I was sent home and the parent would call mine. Then my mother would take her hairbrush and walk into the kitchen taking my arm and putting me over her knee. Always lifting my skirt to pull my panties down or pulling down pants and panties, depending what I was wearing. Then I would get a very harsh spanking, many times lasting up to 10 minutes.
I always begged to not be spanked, and as I matured, felt humiliated for obvious reasons. I had 2 brothers that also were spanked but my dad gave them the belt. If any of us got spanked, it did not matter if another family member was in the room. Which made it worse because I was spanked until age 18.
I did not get spanked often by my father but if my mother was gone for the day visiting her parents and I misbehaved, he was immediately having me over his knee and spanked my bare bottom with his bare hand. I still cringe at that, especially if he had friends over playing pool or something. He would not spank me in front of them but I know they could hear my spanking on the bare bottom from the other room.
I never spanked my children. Even though I grew up at a time when ot was more common, I knew the humiliation of it was worse than the pain. I was not going to do that to my kids and they turned out wonderful.

Well I was always spanked from a young age growing up. Mommy always did the spanking and mostly with her hand. It was on my bare bottom and usually over her knee. When i was about 11 she stopped the spanking and gave me time outs or extra chores to do for not behaving. But about 2 years later I got a sound bare bottom spanking off her for some thing that happened at school. Ever since then Mom has punished me with her hand on my bare bottom and it is very sore too. I know I`m just a teen but am sure I could be punishd other ways. None of my friends have their bare bottoms smacked now. I told mom that. She just said a spanking works best for me.

I think it’s an effective punishment. Everyone needs accountability for how they behave. The pain and embarrassment from such a childish punishment is very humbling. It’s a good reminder to think about how I’m behaving and the decisions I’m making. When I was a teen I couldn’t wait to be an adult so my parents would stop spanking me. Now I’m glad they never believed in me being too old for it to continue. That said, it doesn’t work for everyone and parents should recognize when another punishment would be better.

Really a broad mixture of emotions here, but the overwhelming response explains how I felt better than any words. I never spanked any of my children, nor did I ever let it happen. I teach parenting and corporal punishment is totally absent from my domain and classes. Hopefully this demonstrates how I felt, and still feel.
Note: My father asked my forgiveness when I was in my 40’s and he was in his late-60’s. He is approaching 89 now, and we have a fantastic relationship. I never asked him to apologize. He came to the realization through his faith.

Spankings were the normal/regular method of punishment when I was growing up. I was one of 4 kids born in the 80s. I feel that sometimes my parents spanked too often or too hard but I can’t deny that all 4 of us have good careers and families.

How should I feel? Anger, resentment, frustration, invasion of privacy, loss of independence? Yes, I felt all those at the time when I was disciplined as a child. Looking back as an adult and parent, I now feel none of these emotions. I wish I did not have to be spanked, and wish I had not got into situations where my mom had to spank me, but I blame myself and not her for my actions or lack of responsibility or respect towards my parents.
However, it was because of my shortcomings and failures that my parents took it upon themselves to discipline me and teach me right from wrong, and show me the way, so that I could learn my lessons when I was still young and had the time to make these positive changes in my life.
How do I feel now towards my parents? Gratitude, love, and respect for them, that they cared enough to discipline me. In making this statement I also know that there are other moms and parents who would agree with me, and probably feel the same way towards there parents now.

When I grew up it seemed like everyone got spanked. In the 60's there were no computers, the phones were on the wall (as an Air Force kid we knew calls had to be as short as possible incase the duty officer called), no one had a TV in their room or a car unless you were in college. For discipline we were spanked. My parents only spanked for major issues like safety. For instance around 3yo they started giving us more freedom in the yard but watched us closely - as did the older brothers. If and when the toddler went into the street, even after endless coaching not to. They would be pulled back to a safe place and 4 or five swats over clothes were given. They weren't hard enough to hurt but the uniqueness of it always got the point across. I was spanked 4/5 times over my clothes before I was 10/12. I had my first bare spanking from a friends mom about that time and my parents started doing it that way. By the time they stopped in my 20's I had received maybe another 5 or six spankings that I remember so even if I forgot some, no more than 1 a year so maybe 22 all together?

My parents spanked me until I was 16. It just made me (more) angry and rebellious. When I became a parent I chose not to spank. There are many more constructive ways to discipline a child, and they provide teachable moments that spanking does not provide. My children have grown up to be happy and ethical in their dealings with others. It’s my hope that they will choose not to spank their children, and that ultimately there will be less corporal punishment in this world.

A spanking is what I imagine other kids got. In our family we got our azzez whooped! We knew it was coming when we did something to deserve it. It was a common practice in the seventies and eighties. Children were spanked often. It was nothing to see a kid get spanked in public. Quite often I would see a kid over the parental knee with their underwear showing. There were a few times when I saw a kid over the parental knee with their bare butts in the air. Parents and elders just didn't care. I am not close with my family and I still harbor resentment over the abuse I endured that was passed off as spanking. I don't care, spanking is abuse. If a fully grown person has to hit a smaller person, especially one who is of an age where they're still a bit defenseless, then the parents have a serious problem. Spanking is not discipline; to “discipline” means to teach. It is a punishment, so call it what they did to me. It never made me feel loved and I never appreciated being hit. And I don't understand those who did.

I think there still is a place for reasonable, age appropriate, corporal punishment. I am not a fan of the government entering our homes to order us how to raise our kids. In Canada there are rules about spanking that I agree with, but there doesn’t need to be any more restrictions. I was spanked about 10 times growing up where I have no issues because of it. Most fanatical anti-spankers were horribly abused as kids. I was also grounded, lectured and so on. As far as preference, sometimes a spanking is not a bad way out of a situation, but, if I was spanked, I was usually grounded too.

Back in the late 50,s when i grew up CP was the only punishment. After i was 7 it was things off and over the table in the front room and either a thick leather strap or dads cane whacked across my bare bottom. He did not hold back and it really hurt. I think it depends on how the home is structured, and as long as it is not excessive it is another way to teach right from wrong. In many ways it “teaches” better and has less “harmful” effects such as grounding and the loss of a phone or computer. I grew up in the late 50,s and do wrong then it was trousers and pants off anddad would whack my bare bottom with a thick leather strap or cane. I do not think t had a negative impact n my life, in fact the opposite. My own sons grew up in the 80,s and were treated the same. They have said it “did them good” and certainly had no negative impact.

I think we need more of it! I can give you a list of people who I can see have never seen their mom take off her sandal for a good whacking. The problem these days is people have forgotten the difference between a spanking and a beating. One is a way to remind a kid about an important lesson, and another is an abusive way to control a kid. So, if you're a parent with a disrespectful child, consider the belt you wear on your waist as a teaching tool. P.S. everyone is different so consider other options if spankings ain't working.

I’m adopted. I was abused by my bio mom and her men, and spanked by my adopted parents. There is a world of difference. Im fine with corporal punishment. The child has immediate consequence for bad behavior. The child learns to live with physical pain, a necessary life lesson.

I was spanked badly by mom once… never before… because i had a bad grade at a school test in maths for which i was sent to the corner. As such never happened before, never had corner time, i was laughing at her first that made her angry. I was 9. She must have had bad days. I was not lazy to study, but i did not understand the material. I was rebelling. For the next day i did not prepare maths homework on purpose, but i prepared all others. Following day i got noticed by the maths teacher, my mom spanked me again for not preparing. Next day further i did not show up any homeworks (though i prepared them at home), did not do any class work at school, playing dumb. My master teacher called her to report… Mom realized that i was that stoneheaded jerk guy that the more she punishes the more i will rebel. Specially when i did not make wrong, i was just not smart enough, which was not my fault. Luckily she looked up for a friend of hers who explained me the maths staff and i got good grades again. Never ever spanked or punished me phisically again. Mom told the stories a decade later that as kids it was enough to give a slap to my bro when he made wrong and he understood soon and moderated — it was not worth wasting words with him. While i made worse and worse in case of any punishments or threats, so she had to convince me explain while i made wrong and why not to do so.

I grew up in a home that used spankings, as did most people my age probably did. Frankly, I thought it was pretty effective. See, we knew what would get us spankings. Usually spankings were reserved for:
- Any bad behavior related to school—detentions, rudeness to teachers, bad grades, acting up in class. Mom and Dad didn’t mess with school stuff. You were expected to go to school, listen to the teacher, do your homework, and not be a disruptive pain in the ass.
- Disrespect to adults. Mouthing off to mom and dad, or any adult—didn’t happen. You got a spanking for that.
- Lying/stealing. You got caught at either one of those and you’d get it.
If you didn’t do any of the above, you didn’t have a lot to worry about. Now, we didn’t have spankings every day, in large part because we didn’t test our parents. We knew Mom and Dad had no problem spanking, they didn’t just threaten. Since we knew they’d do it, we stayed away from those activities that would get us those spankings.

I felt angry at first but mostly at myself for not following the rules. I believe in spanking kids for repeated bad behaviors. Discipline teaches respect and that is something our world needs. Not child has ever died from getting their bottom spanked. There is a big difference between a spanking and abuse.

No. I wasn’t punished by my parents as a child. Both my parents died when I was 18 months old, and I was dumped in an orphanage run by the Catholic Church in the USA. That’s where I received punishments. Jesus damn Christ did I receive punishments. I was beaten with a wooden rod for giggling in church, then beaten again when I forgot to go to confession to confess the sin of disrespecting our lord in church. During a bible recital class, I forgot a bible quote and was dragged from the class and beaten again. This regularly occurred from around 6 years old. And to this day, I swear that it was due to me being a mixed race child. All the other boys were white, but the nuns seemed to have it in for me because I wasn’t.
The big punishments I do remember vividly were from around puberty hit. “Having impure thoughts and spilling my seed” was the ultimate punishment and it didn’t matter if it was by self pleasure or by nocturnal emission. The head dormitory nun had this large crook with a brass crucifix on the end. If she ever caught us playing with ourselves, we’d get beaten black and blue with this crook. She was a brutal b*tch, this nun. But while we were being beaten for sinning against god, she was ok with choosing boys (usually the cute blonde boys) to go up to the priests quarters so they could use them as sex slaves. Although nothing was overtly said, we knew what went on when the boys came back hunched over in pain. One fat priest tried it on me once, but I fought him off by buying his arm which drew blood. Christ did I cop it after that. It just added to the already existing beatings I endured.
So if my folks were still alive, I would have rather received punishments from them instead of the violent abuse I received from that home… All because apparently god (who I now realise doesn’t exist) loves his children. What crap.

My earliest memory is 2. I knew I needed to help with the groceries, and all went fine until I thought about the milk. At that time it was n glass bottles, and as I got to the bottom step, it slipped from my fingers, and I was already scared because I knew what was coming. My mom explained, but I Still got a sound spanking! By three, I hated him so much I wished for him to just go, and leave us alone! Every time something went wrong, no matter who he thought it was our fault, he’d hit all 3 of us! I can only remember one time when I was so angry, and had no outlet for it, I cut the cord to my mom’s favorite clock while it was still plugged in. I thought if I were dead, there would be no more physical punishments! True, I could’ve killed myself, but I think at that time if I’d been dead I would’ve gotten a better life.

Having said that I have seen some horribly behaved children and I’m not sure what really works to get through to them. So… is spanking the quick and most effective way?

I was spanked as a child. I don’t feel it was ever abusive or unwarranted. There were times when it could have been done more calmly and that would have been better, but I have no regrets about any of them. When I look back, I feel that I was not spanked when I deserved it in my adolescence. There were several times when it was absolutely deserved. I also feel that a regimen of spanking would have been useful for me to attend to my schoolwork. I was a terrible student and grounding/privilege loss didn’t do anything to motivate me. I believe spanking would have worked, but I have no resentment toward my father for not having done it. I don’t know if my subjective experience was similar to others or whether I’m the only kid in history that wishes he got spanked.

Both parents did only once and both times I ruined it and made it backfire to the point where they refused any type of punishments like that ever again. I didn’t do anything extreme but when my mom spanked me for calling her dumb/stupid (can’t remember) I cried a bit, got off her and ask “Why are you hitting me?”. I would then walk away from her without her hugging me and she would cry for me to come back (which I did, and now I feel like I made her super sad). I can’t remember if my dad ever spanked me. I think he did once but never got passed one spank because after raising his hand up again he just stopped, sat me up on the couch, and left into the kitchen to talk to my mom. I do know that he spanked my older brother once (not sure why though) but again he didn’t feel like it would work, he was almost afraid of doing it. Growing up anytime a family member suggested they spank us my mom got in there face and was pissed about it. She thinks it just enforces the idea that you should use violence to make a point.

Physical punishment was non existent in my home. My brothers and I were never physically punished. We turned to be people who dislike violent behaviour. Children should not be subject to any kind of physical reprimand. They may grow up with abusive tendencies.

They were wrong to do it, but it was the way they'd been raised and they thought they were doing right by us. I've forgiven them for that mistake and several others, since they were very good parents in a number of other ways. My father in particular was a complex and flawed human being with a very big heart and generous nature. He was always there for me no matter what and made sure I knew it, even at times when when he didn't know what the hell to do with me.

My parents learned on the first 3 children, so when I came along I had experienced, unworried parents who knew that punishment wasn't effective, and who gave me reasons for the behavior they hoped for, and who encouraged me to be myself. I wasn't expected, for example, to never burp at the table. My father egged us on, in fact, and we laughed a lot about his big burps. My mother didn't like it, so we tried to take that into account at least some of the time. We knew how to behave with company or in public, we didn't embarrass our parents on purpose, and we learned to read social situations for what was appropriate. I don't ever remember being punished for anything.
I'm sure I messed up sometimes, but my parents were reasonable. Bad grades? They were more interested in knowing what made something hard, not the actual grade. They sympathized when my team lost the championship game, or when my cow stepped in my foot again. They didn't lecture me about anything. I didn't feel judged by them, nor did I feel like I could do no wrong. Their approach allowed me to evaluate myself, and not get hung up on other people's opinions.
Our farm life had many challenges, physical and otherwise. I know we made them mad sometimes, when we sat under a tree in the shade instead of helping weed in the enormous garden. But it wasn't made into an obedience thing. No one wanted to be working in the sun, but as kids, we hadn't developed the self discipline to make ourselves do it the way my parents had. I think they understood that. My father sometimes guilted us into doing certain work, which I thought then (and still do) was not a good strategy. I'd have responded better to an honest statement of what he needed us to do, and by when, and an acknowledgment that he knew we didn't want to, and appreciation for our doing it anyway. Because we'd never have just not done it; we only needed to complain a little. I think he just didn't have the bandwidth to pay much attention to our feelings when he was feeling the pressure of farming and big animal care. I know he valued feelings, generally.
So no, no punishment. No imposed hardship or time outs or losing privileges. Just encouragement, real interest, trust in the human organism to want to grow up and become civilized and responsible. And it worked out for everybody.

Yes I got it and yes I am a better person today for getting it. In fact I still get what I call a mantance spanking every other week and when I feel I need a good regular spanking I still get them by someone who I have known for years and trust. When I tell him I feel I need a discipline spanking he has the final say if I get it and how much I get or if he feels I don't get it.

Time out, scolding, early bedtime, loss of privileges, grounding, spankings. I’m very grateful for the discipline I received. What actually made a difference for me was spankings or the threat thereof. Other things had thru place and weren’t useless. I did learn from the other things, mostly time out I guess. My only regret about spankings was that they stopped before my behavioral issues were all ironed out and being grounded didn’t really motivate me as a teenager. I’m not sure why they stopped when I was 9 or 10, cuz I was a naughty kid up through at least 14 and deserved a good whooping a couple times as a high schooler.

My parents were very loose with punishments. It was mostly ignoring bad behavior and rewarding good behavior. And we were always talking out problems instead of just punishing. Never anything physical. I think I turned out pretty ok. My sister vandalizes things for fun, but I'm fine.

I only have one memory of being spanked and I remember that it involved a wooden spoon, but I don't remember the other details, like how old I was or what I had done to get it. I don't hate my parents for it, I guess mostly because I don't remember how often I got spanked. I just know it wasn't a regular occurrence and it wasn't enough to even border on child abuse.

My parents spanked us, hit us, used soap in our mouths, etc, etc. I guess it was the thing to do at the time so I don’t really judge them too much for it. My mother had 5 boys and was a strict disciplinarian. She, like most Greek women, hit first and asked questions later. We called her the lion tamer because she carried a belt in her hand like a whip, always at the ready to strike out at us. She bragged until the day she died that none of her boys spent a day in jail. Actually, none of us spent one day in jail. And, we’re all college graduates. Every state has a law allowing the parents to administer reasonable corporal punishment on their child for disciplinary reasons. The key is the word reasonable. If the parent beats the child unmercifully, or puts the child in the hospital because of a beating, that’s been ruled by the courts to be unreasonable.

I felt mad when I got a spanking because I obviously never wanted the spanking. I would cry after a spanking because it would hurt. Since I was upset about getting spanked I would sometimes try to say it was stupid after the spanking and would scream and complain about the spanking and that almost always got me another spanking. I would also sometimes scream either no or yes when asked if I learned my lesson and the screaming got me another spanking.

It only happened once. And I can still remember the outrage I felt 60 years later. Now, as an adult, I can understand why my mother got so upset. But spanking me was still wrong. It didn’t have the effect that she wanted. She had me (at 4 maybe) and my sister sitting on the bathroom sink while she washed us. I was playing with a rat-tail comb. I poked it towards my sister’s eyes. She got really upset and gave me an over-the-knee spanking. Clearly, I wasn’t trying to hurt my sister. I just was too young to understand what might happen. And it wasn’t something I was likely to ever do again. I wasn’t capable of understanding what was going on. The effect of the spanking did not create greater compassion for my sister. It created resentment towards my mother and my sister. What I was doing was clearly wrong. But the punishment needs to get the point across to the one being punished. It didn’t. It probably contributed to the tense relationship I had with my sister as kids.

I think it has a place in everyone's lives. We all need reminders sometimes. That said CP doesn't work for everyone nor is it appropriate for every transgression - thats just abuse. But for safety issues or other very serious issues CP can have an impact no other punishment can compete with. Yes, we occasionally got CP maybe 15 times by the time I was 25 about half of them bare. There are times I think I should have been given more - like not completing my homework because being prepared is so important in life. Just explaining its important is not enough - at least for me it wasn't.

Every time anything went wrong, I was hit. It didn’t matter I might’ve done nothing, but it was my fault, some how. I started hating my father (since his way was always physical), and always thought my mother should’ve married somebody else. I tried everything from sitting on a chair for the age limit with nothing o do, and for awhile it worked, but when they got too old for the chair, I grounded them for a week. I was tired of talking and when I was already having a bad day, and they started whining, I said any more, and you’ll be grounded! When it didn’t work with the talking, I simply said, you’re grounded! I was already having a tough day I didn’t need anything else on top of what I had already had too much of!

My dad believed in the philosophy, you get spanked if you do something that could potentially hurt yourself or others. He used belts and wooden spoons. The last time he spanked me I was 10, I believe. I just laughed hysterically Everytime he spanked me, and he would ask oh you want another one? I would start pleading and crying hysterically no. Then he spanked again and I started laughing again. He never spanked me again after that. I guess they lost their effectiveness. I'm sure he was trying to hold in the laugh too when it was happening because as a parent he didn't know what the heck was wrong with me because I thought it was hilarious, but my conscience was worried because I was bad because of getting spanked. It's weird I feel guilty for spanking my daughter now, but I know spanking wasn't detrimental to my upbringing. I guess society has instilled in me how horrible they are. If a spanking is requested, even by a young adult living at home, the reason for the punishment should be clearly understood by the parent who has been asked to spank. Good parents would never think to do these things to their children. A little learning goes a long way and can Ensure a peaceful household that is harmonious and lacks the awful tension when parents and children do not know how to agree on what is right.

It was an eye-opening experience to see a woman screaming “motherfucker!” at her toddler still in diapers, and damn near every unit has switches and belts laying on tables and TVs. I’m sure it’s effective because the entire community is perfectly safe; most of those kids join a community volunteer organization called “Crips” and decorate the neighborhood with fine art done by spray paint. They shoot a tremendous number of drug dealers: the city of 80k has about 30 homicides annually. *rolls eyes
There’s a point where we have to step back and look at reality, and accept failure. Almost everyone I know who brags, “I got spanked and I’m a better person!”….I’m sitting back thinking, “I’ve known you for over thirty years, since we were in elementary school. You are a deeply committed racist, though you hide that online. You look at poor people as vermin. You complain to restaurant managers after eating, even if everything was flawless, simply to get a discount. You’ve never read about a war you wouldn’t happily send American soldiers to fight (excluding your own children). You’ve cheated on all of your wives, and you have a minor criminal record for drug offenses. The most decent thing about you is while you post hostile political garbage online, a quick check with the State Board of Elections shows you aren’t a registered voter. If what your parents did to you is considered a success, I’ll take failure for my own. You didn’t turn out okay; you turned into a wretched human being. As a consequence of that treatment, you now believe hitting children is okay.”

My childhood was in the 60’s and early 70’s. All my punishment were on my bare backside. Even if I was in public, it was still on the bare butt. It wasn’t just the hand or belt. It also included the hairbrush, bathbrush, wooden spoon, horse whip and the switch. They all were very painful. Some more then others. All were very effective in teaching me that violence is not the way to punish a child. It just made me totally fear my mother. It didn’t make me behave better, because I already was very well behaved. She still found whatever reason she could to beat the hell out of me.

What can I expect when getting spanked with the belt? A very well burned butt. They will likely strike your behind until they know you've learned your lesson and possibly longer. When one of my children have earned a spanking and it's time to apply the spanking they go to their room and either lower their pants and underwear or lift their skirt and lower their underwear before laying across their bed. Then I start striking their bare butt with the belt but it doesn't really start until the real tears start. That means sobs not boo hoo I'm in trouble. When I'm done they have a very red bottom and go to the corner where they stay for half an hour after the tears stop. It starts then so they can think about what they did and how much trouble they're still in. Punishment doesn't end with a spanking. They could lose free time, miss out on an event they want to do, pay a fine, early bedtime or an early bedtime with a spanking before bed for a set amount of days. It will start with that day unless the spanking happened close to bedtime. If it does when corner time is done and they apologized for what they did and agree they deserved it and the additional punishments then they go to bed. We don't hug and coddle them when they earned a spanking it's not something they deserve to be coddled over.

It was when I was growing up and it is now for my kids. My husband and I are almost identical to my parents when it comes to our go to imlements if implements are required. My go to and my mothers go to spanking implement is a wooden hairbrush, both my Dad and my husband’s go to spanking implement is a belt. Not sure if that is a male/female thing or if I’m the only one out there that is like this, but, yes, it is very normal, if your parents believe or you believe in corporal punishment.

ALOT of course, but keep in mind this was like 15-30 years ago as well, there were plenty but not all were memorable enough to remember many years after. But there were still a few that I remember, and that means that the lessons they imparted were taken to heart! It also gives you the chance to say to your children “hey kid I know what you're going through, I was spanked for something just as naughty when i was a child” and my kids like to hear some of those stories, but when its a childhood friend or family members retelling it at dinner, its still embarrassing and I feel like that lil girl again blushing as mom told a friend allll about her daughters antics that morning. I will give three memories/examples.
I was I think 8 years old. At a church picnic, were a bunch of families and many of us kids all were spanked so it was just a fact of life. But, my friend and I were playing with a ball and not paying attention I ran to catch it and bumped into a plate of hotdogs that went flying everywhere and you could just hear the audible gasp as if I had just set the picnic table on fire lol (well mom set my butt on fire) I heard my FULL name, thats when you know your in trouble. Determined look on her face, mom grabs my hand and also grabs a nearby wooden spoon. Marched me away from people, though not that far. Sat on an empty picnic table, and gave he a spoon lickin on bare butt. Made me stand there in a time out too. Everyone heard and saw and it was very embarrassing but humbling, I was more careful after that
A simple one, not sitting still being loud at church, mom marching me out in my Sunday dress to an empty church classroom, giving me a hand spanking , none saw but I am sure they heard, I also came back in rubbing back of my dress and red eyes.
Sleepover with a female friend at my house Friday night, age 13. Mom was more than fair warned us then again warned us “If I hear your girls up again I will come spank you, Kristina” she said something and we both started giggling, I heard moms footsteps coming up. We tried to hide under covers and act asleep , but didn't work. Mom came in , pulled me out of bed, sat down, over her knee. She said how I was the host and my friend was a guest, she doesn't know the house rules but you do, you need to set the example, so thats why you are getting this spanking and not her!” My friend was no stranger to spankings but had never seen mine. Her mouth was dropped open and at some points saw her covering eyes, as mom spanked me good n soundly with her hairbrush. Bestie was kind enough to apply cold cream to my bottom, and we are still friends to this day!
